Frequently Asked Questions
What is meant by 'free' WiFi?
Free Wifi is an internet connection that is not charged for in addition to any cost associated with using a venue. As an example, a cafe that allows you to connect to their hotspot would be considered free, even if they required you to purchase food or drinks, provided they made no charge above that of the food or drinks.
Why are there mainly GPS coordinates and not street addresses?
Identification of street names can be very poor in some areas of the Algarve. With more and more communication devices providing GPS referencing this seemed to be the more accurate approach. If you require street-level information, the GPS coordinates can be copied and pasted into a mapping application such as Google Maps
Where is the search facility?
The list in the right margin is pre-sorted by type of establishment (items starting with a hash), then by county (items starting with an asterisk), then town, with the number of known connections following each topic. Clicking on a list item will display only venues in that category / location.
Why do some free WiFi locations have 'Validated' in their entries?
Some of the locations we publish are done so at the recommendation of the readers of the site. We accept that the information provided should be accurate, but have no personal knowledge that this is the case. Other entries' information comes from either personal knowledge or at the request of the owners and operators of the venues. These are identified as definitely being in service as of the date stated.
Organisations with a corporate philosophy of free WiFi, such as the local councils or McDonald's will automatically have their status set to 'Validated' and will display the WiFi symbol.
How can I print details of only one location?
We can appreciate that you may not want to print all 30 entries on a page. Click on the header of the desired entry, which will display that item uniquely. Then print that page.
Why are some entries more detailed than others?
Some businesses have opted for paid, premium listings which allow them to expand on the information provided with phone numbers, links to their websites and reviews of their establishments, maps, photos etc.
How can I list my own business?
The information we require is explained HERE
