Vila Real being the first turn off the Spain Portugal motorway is easy to pass by when your heading into the Algarve so to speak. But, I had a need to visit the town and spent a very pleasant morning there. I headed back westward to my base in Alvor via the N125. (I had lots of time)and looked into the many side roads leading to the seafront. I was pleasantly surprised at the many attractions of this eastern part of the Algarve, and would recommend a visit. It's very different from the central "tourist" areas. Sadly, I cannot recommend the A125.
